Once I got a grip of myself again I realised that a whole big quilt using this pattern in this fabric just isn't for me, and I decided to make a baby quilt instead. I added a few borders and some straight line quilting, and then just a teeny wee touch of hand quilting in green perle to the white borders.
I used some of the remaining jelly roll strips to make a scrappy binding which I stitched down by hand one evening and voila! A very bright and happy baby quilt :)
I've popped the quilt into my little Etsy shop, before I decide that I need to have another baby just so I can use this quilt. If you're interested, you can find it here.
Fabric used is American Jane's ABC123 for Moda plus some scraps
Backing is a lovely American Jane print from Snippets that the lovely Gertie sent me :)
Wadding is Warm and Natural (NOT the easiest to hand quilt!)
The quilt measures approx 39" x 39"
Good that you have scratched that itch. I really like how you have finished the little quilt off with a border and then the 2 1/2" squares. Di xReplyDelete
It's so cheerful and bright, perfect for a baby quilt :-)ReplyDelete
Thank goodness you have an etsy shop! Lol! Great quilt but that would be THE biggest reason I've heard for keeping a quilt!!!!ReplyDelete
Absolutely gorgeous! Love the fabric and the hand quilting was totally worth it :)ReplyDelete
It's beautiful. I love the colours and that scrappy border is simply perfect.ReplyDelete

Definitely easiest to remove it from your field of view in case temptation gets too strong! juliexReplyDelete

It's absolutely lovely! I love the effect given to it by the white borders, and the hand quilting and binding are great.ReplyDelete

Excellent solution, and now that's that itch scratched :oDReplyDelete
It's a lovely quilt Fiona and know exactly how you felt...until today when I made some more blocks and I have to say I'm loving the way the pattern is developing. Having said that, sometimes we just know something isn't for us and we must make things that we want to make - that's what it's all about!ReplyDelete
So beautiful Fiona. I love the white borders you added.ReplyDelete
Really cute, I love the colours Fiona, and the border!ReplyDelete
It's really lovely Fions. My scrappytripalong only got as far as 3 blocks, I'm not good with scrappy :(ReplyDelete
That is really lovely! I really want to try quilting now...!ReplyDelete
Hi Fiona - The quilt is so beautiful, I love your idea for the scrappy binding. It looks like Murphy likes it too!ReplyDelete
