There's not been a whole lot of sewing going on around here. 2012 had a wee sting in her tail and I ended up with a burst eardrum on New Years Eve. I've not been doing much since then except lying around saving my energy for feeling better.
I did manage a bit of retail therapy though...
Floressence by Art Gallery Fabrics bought from Sew Fresh Fabrics. I love their sale of the week, just had a peak at this week's offer and it's Chicopee!
A couple of Art Gallery Color Story bundles and some Hope Chest backing fabric, bought from Pink Castle Fabrics
A Fat Quarter bundle of LillyBelle by Bari J for Art Galley fabrics. I found this on sale and was powerless to resist. I've been wanting to play with this line since it first came out :) I bought it from Stash Modern Fabric on Etsy.
The retail therapy didn't bring back my hearing or mend my ear, but it did make me feel better, and it was like Christmas all over again when my postie brought all my parcels on the same day!
The title of this post mentions a new beginning I've finally decided that I know what I want to be when I grow up, and have started down a new path :)
I'm going back to studying! The qualifications I have are out of date, and I'm starting an Open University course in Health and Social Care next month. I'm excited and very nervous. Life has changed a lot since I last studied and I have my suspicions that at least part of my brain has turned to porridge!
But it feels like the right time to give it a try. Eeeek!
Happy New Year!
Fiona x
Good for you getting back to school, missus! I'm forty next year (holy hell!) and STILL don't know what I want to be when I grow up. The very best of luck to you!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Oh, yeah, gorgeous fabrics *envy, envy* and sorry 'bout the old lughole. Owie!
Fantastic news that you are going back to Uni ! I did this a few years back when I did an MA in Phorography and although it was a painful 2 1/2 years I am so glad I did it. This will give you a huge boost. Lovely fabric too.
ReplyDeleteExciting times! I have often thought about doing an OU course, but it would be for totally indulgent learning, not doing anything actually useful like you ;-)
ReplyDeleteOooh, good luck on going back to uni! Health and social care.... I bet that will be super interesting. I always wanted to be a doctor, but ended up in my techie job (which I do actually love, but that's by the by lol).
ReplyDeleteYowie on the ear-drum, but glad it didn't inhibit your clicking finger (that would be awful!) Good luck with embarking down your new path :o)
ReplyDeleteOh, a burst eardrum sounds incredibly painful, hope you're fully recovered soon so you can enjoy cutting into those gorgeous new fabrics! Good luck with your OU course - you'll be brilliant!
ReplyDeleteOuch, burst eardrum sounds awful! I hope you are doing better. Going back to school sounds so exciting! Kudos to you for jumping in, I know you will rock it!
ReplyDeleteHappy new year!
Good on you for studying again, and good luck! I haven't studied since I was 21, but my husband has twice! There's different challenges to the undergrad years, ie which beer next is no longer his first priority! Just having it quiet at home for study was the main thing. Late nights! I would love to study again, but totally self indulgently, and I probably wouldn't finish the assignments, just absorb the knowledge!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your ear - hope it feels better soon! And how exciting about your studies!
ReplyDeleteOh well done you Fi! Go for it! And I hope you ear heals quickly (nothing as painful as a sore ear!). Poor you! Jxo
ReplyDeleteYou'll be fine when you get back in to the swing of it - I did a postgrad course the year after my daughter was born, in 2005 - it took a few weeks and much wailing to get used to studying again, but my confidence improved immensely because of it. Just take your time and be kind to yourself! Oh, love the fabric - can't beleive I mentioned that last?!
ReplyDeleteGreat fabric treats. Hope you're fully recovered from the ouchy ear drum. Good Luck with the OU study. I enjoyed the course I did with them and think they're a great organisation. If I knew what I wanted to be when I grow up I'd be doing the same!
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! Good for you, you'll slip right back in to studying :) I have to laugh I had a pile of hope chest too for backing! Lots of lovelies :). Hope you turn the corner on recovery soon :)
ReplyDeleteI went back to university in my 40s, and I loved it. I think you'll find your brain works even better than when you were younger. More organized, goal-oriented, and realistic thinking will amaze you!
ReplyDeleteYour sewing time will become even more of a treat, too. I look forward to seeing how you make it all work!
Poor you, hope the ear continues to heal and gets properly better soon. What a lot of yummy fabric, I'm trying not to look!
ReplyDeleteWell done with the OU, brilliant that you know what you want to do - good luck, I'm sure your brain will spring into action when it has to. Juliex
Poor you. Sore ears are really sore. The fabric buying brought you lots of goodies. Enjoy the studying, it is harder to do with children but far more satisfying than straight from school (I did my degrees in my 30s so I'm speaking from experience). Have fun. Di x
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm sorry to hear about your ear problems (no pun intended!) I was wondering where you were! I hope you are feeling better! And good luck with the study- that's a brave step!
ReplyDeleteThe fabric is great, but the OU is amazing - good for you!! xxx
ReplyDeleteOh no, more problems with your ear :-( well done on the studying. Having just finished 3 and half years of home study myself and then getting a promotion on the back of it I would say you have definitely done the right thing
ReplyDeleteOuch I hope your ear is on the mend - sounds very sore. Love the retail therapy, I was eyeing up that LillyBelle bundle myself :) Must be exciting going back to studying, I remember my Mum doing her OU course, she found it so worthwhile.
ReplyDeleteCool! A new adventure with Open University will be amazing! Best of luck to you!
