Today I'm quilting.
My Swoon quilt top has been finished since March. I had started hand quilting it, but it's massive at 80" by 80" and I realised I would probably never get it finished. So, I decided to practice my FMQ.
I'll be honest, I'm knackered! And a little bit sick of it, but I'm more than halfway finished. My quilting isn't perfect (in fact it's pretty dodgy in places) but I'm improving, and I'm getting more confident at trying new things. I bought Angela Water's book a while back (I really quite like it) and I'm trying some of her ideas out.
My 7th bobbin has just run out so I thought I'd spread it out and take some pictures to inspire me to keep going.
Keep going Fiona, keep going!
Happy Thursday!
It looks fantastic! Your stitching looks just fine to me and the quilt it going to be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou are so brave to use such a huge quilt for your FMQ practice. I still haven't done any but must do one day. I also am eyeing Angela's book. Is it any good for FMQ beginners ?
ReplyDeleteIf you have never heard of quadrant quilting, you should check it out. It makes FMQ a big size quilt sooooo much easier. Leah Day and Elizabeth Hartman both have a tutorial on this. you swwon quilt is beautiful and worth finishing!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh oh oh an Heirloom Swoon! I was a mouse-click away from buying an Heirloom FQ bundle to do a Swoon with, but my inability to choose a colourway meant that I procrastinated too long! Yours is so fab. V impressed with the FMQ - I am hoping to get the Angela Walters book for Christmas to inspire me to take the plunge! Maybe not with an 80" x 80" quilt though ...
ReplyDeleteSeven bobbins and still counting, wow!
ReplyDeleteJust look at how comfy and inviting it's getting!
It's looking wonderful! I only do straight line quilting as i find fmq really heavy going so i'm in awe of what you're doing and your staying power, 7 bobbins wow!

ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely beautiful, you have to keep going.
ReplyDeleteGlad it's not just me that get's fed up of winding bobbins!! I think someone should invent a machine that can have a reel of cotton in place of a bobbin.... someone will doubtless now tell me there is such a machine god but that it's thousands of pounds.... :-)
ReplyDeleteI am just gearing myself up to hand quilt one which is approximately 80in square - yours looks lovely, but I am not sure that I am up to FMQ!
