Bee Blocks

I'm very excited as June is my month in the Brit Bee!  I've chosen a nice simple disappearing 9 patch block and I'm hoping my lovely Bees will make me 2 blocks each. I decided that the Dream On fabric that I bought ages ago was perfect for a pretty summery quilt so I chopped it up and it's now winging it's way around the UK so the lovely Bees can get busy!

I can't wait to see the blocks they make me - I love the disappearing 9 patch and think it will be gorgeous with the Dream On Fabric. Here's a little test block I made...

I also managed to finish my blocks for the 3 x 6 Bee. The little hive that I'm is so lovely and chatty. We decided to make 2 blocks for each other as we were enjoying ourselves so much. Here are my finished blocks. I hope everyone likes them :)

 Thanks for visiting! Happy Monday.....

Basting Lynne's QAL

Basting Lynne's QAL by fionapoppy
I've been working Lynne's dresden QAL and my backing fabric finally arrived, so yesterday I spent some time on my hands and kness pinning. I'm not doing the quilt-as-you-go method that Lynne used. I decided to sew all my blocks together and hand quilt them.
I'm not sure what sane person would decide to start pin-basting a quilt on their living room floor 45 minutes before they need to leave to do the school-run, but that's what I did..... I did manage to get the basting finished (and managed to get to school in time) but my fingers are still hurting!

We were supposed to be heading off for a family camping trip to the lake district today, but due to unexpected vet bills our trip is cancelled :( Actually I think it might be a blessing in disguise. I'm thinking that 5 of us huddling in a soggy tent, with wind howling and rain lashing might have been torture - there's only so much Jenga and Connect 4 you can play.........
This is Ava one of the contributors to the vet bills, thankfully she's better, and still looking this cute :)

Happy Thursday....

Brit Quilt Swap - Fabrics?

Brit Quilt Swap - Fabrics? by fionapoppy
Brit Quilt Swap - Fabrics?, a photo by fionapoppy on Flickr.
First of all I would like to say a HUGE thankyou to all of you who have visited, commented and become followers - Thankyou thankyou thankyou!
Today I am thinking about fabrics for my partner in the Brit Quilt Swap. This is what I have come up with...
So Partner, if you are reading this, I've decided that you are a bit special. So I have pulled out some of my most favourite fabrics. I'm thinking of a rainbow whirlpool, with the purples at the centre, swirling out to the aqua?
What I would like to know is - do you like the HR Mendocino shown in the centre? It's my my favourite fabric ever, but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea! Would you like some mermaids and sea creatures swimming in your whirlpool?

do. Good Stitches blocks

Every month I make 2 blocks for a charity group on Flickr. The group is call do.Good Stitches and I belong to the Joy circle. Every month a quilter lets us know the design for the 2 blocks we will be making. This month it was Scraptastic blocks, following this tutorial . We make the blocks using fabric from our own stash, and once the quilter receives all the blocks they complete the quilt and donate the quilt to charity. Our charity is My very own blanket. It's so nice to know that the simple blocks I make will become a quilt that will hopefully be treasured by a child in need of some comfort.
Anyway, here are the blocks I made this month. They were a lot of fun and fast to make.

And I am quite pleased with myself - this is my first proper blog post!!!
